UMWELT
Though we share the same physical space, each of us inhabits our own perceptual world - our umwelt - shaped by our senses, memories, and lived experience. Art then becomes a way of attempting to communicate our own umwelt, despite the fact that we can never experience another person’s reality. This exhibition acknowledges that impossibility, celebrating that the beauty is found in the attempt, in what we create while trying to bridge that experiential gap.
“These works show a slice of my umwelt, in the hope that maybe you can step inside my world. And through your interpretation, I too become part of yours. For me, that’s the beauty of creating,” says artist Cameron Iona.
UMWELT, by Cameron Iona, explores colour and perspective to reveal narratives within the everyday, inviting viewers to slow down and encounter the familiar through a different lens. Step inside and see what you can discover.
