Bristol Refugee Artists Collective (BRAC) is a group of artists from different countries and cultures who speak 21 languages between them and share a passion for the universal language of art.
They have been promoting their practice of love and creativity for the last eight years, and in this residency and exhibition, A PLACE CALLED US, they explore the complex terrain of HOME: their original homes, their temporary homes through necessity or choice, and how they gradually home themselves with each other here in Bristol.
Art is a reflection of thoughts, experiences, and memories, and a fundamental, healthy outlet for personal expression and the process of learning. BRAC believes in equal opportunity for everyone to experience creativity in all mediums, regardless of skill level. They are all gaining a deeper understanding of other cultures and heritages outside of their own, through exchanging and learning new skills, and improving capabilities together.
BRAC demonstrates the power of collectivism to advocate further unity in society despite differences in age, gender, physical ability, ethnic, economic, or social backgrounds. Open to new members, they continue to inspire confidence in others to regularly engage with communities outside of their own, and to break down frigid barriers between cultures and languages.
