Though each artist in Backhand 4 brings a distinct practice, perspective, and voice, the exhibition is rooted in a shared ethos of experimentation, collaboration, and engagement. Backhand 4 creates a space where emerging and mid-career artists can challenge conventions, explore new ideas, and connect with audiences, inviting visitors to experience contemporary art in ways that go beyond observation. The platform celebrates creativity as a communal act, where participation, dialogue, and curiosity shape the experience for both artists and audiences.
Curated by Jacob Faulkner and Sam Brentall, Backhand 4 presents a diverse group of creators working across painting, drawing, installation, and mixed media. Complementing the artworks, a series of workshops and events invites visitors to step into the creative process: a lettering workshop with Fyona Finn and a portrait workshop with Creamy Lines offer hands-on engagement, while a secret gig brings a playful sense of surprise and performance. Together, these experiences transform the gallery into an active, social, and collaborative space where art, learning, and connection intertwine.
