Marks of Remembrance is the latest chapter in the evolving narrative of the nProjekt series titled "Remembrance." Following the Seeds of Remembrance in Argentina and Tokens of Remembrance in Finland, this third edition finds its home at Centrespace in Bristol, scheduled for March 2024. Unlike its predecessors, Marks of Remembrance shifts from a location-driven approach and object-based works to embrace an image-centric exploration. This exhibition will showcase a mix of animation, video projection, printmaking, alongside digital and photographic prints, enriched by the tactile presence of embroidery works.

As with other nProjekt series, Marks of Remembrance continues to highlight the talents of artists from Hong Kong. These creators delve into the core theme of the "Remembrance" series: our limited capacity to physically carry the past amidst the vastness of memory. Through artistic creation, remembrance transcends mere recollection to become a transformative process. The artworks serve not only as repositories of memory but also as dynamic reinterpretations, offering new forms of engagement with our past that are imbued with meaning and longevity.

Echoing the origin of the series, Marks of Remembrance signifies that seeds — be they objects or images carried with(in) us — blossom on new soil. They adapt to new conditions and situations, continually reminding us of our heritage and origin, while simultaneously morphing to fit into the future. This exhibition invites viewers on a reflective journey, exploring how memory's myriad manifestations can be distilled into artistic expressions that resonate through time and space, bridging the past and future.

Marks of Remembrance is more than an exhibition; it is a collective narrative, a shared odyssey, and an exploration of the nature of memory — all through the transformative lens of art. It is an invitation to viewers to discover the enduring power of memory and its capacity to inform and shape both our understanding of the past and our journey into the future.

Marks of Remembrance: personal and collective memory on images

Bristol, UK - nProject is pleased to announce the exhibition Marks of Remembrance, the latest in the 'Remembrance' series. This exhibition of art from Hong Kong will be on show at Centrespace Gallery, Bristol from 15 to 20 March 2024, with an opening event scheduled for 16:00 on 15 March.

Exhibition Details:

Following the success of Seeds of Remembrance in Argentina and Tokens of Remembrance in Finland, Marks of Remembrance emerges as a vibrant, image-centric exploration diverging from its predecessors’ focus on location and objects. This exhibition boasts a diverse array of media including animation, video projection, printmaking, digital and photographic prints, and the intricate art of embroidery.

Curated by Jamsen Law, Marks of Remembrance showcases the work of artists from Hong Kong, including AU Wah-yan, Carol CHOW, Jamsen LAW, LEE Suet Ying, Elaine WONG, and June WONG. These artists explore the exhibition's central theme — the limitations of physically carrying the past amidst the vastness of memory. Through their creations, memory transcends into a transformative process, with artworks acting as dynamic repositories and reinterpretations of our collective past.

This exhibition is a testament to the idea that memory, in its myriad forms, can find new life and meaning on fresh soil. It embodies the adaptability of our heritage and origin, morphing and growing as it moves into the future. Marks of Remembrance is not just an exhibition; it is a journey of reflection, a collective narrative exploring the essence of memory through the transformative power of art.

Visitors are invited to embark on this reflective journey to discover how artistic expressions distil memory, bridging past and future, and resonating through time and space. Marks of Remembrance offers a unique opportunity to engage with the enduring power of memory and its role in shaping our understanding of the past and our aspirations for the future.
