Michael Henderson

I trained as an architect at Edinburgh College of Art, but didn't learn much about building. I have always loved wood & making thing , so I worked to learn how to do this. I have designed & built roofs, workshops, conservatories, stairs, furniture, etc.

I extended my skill into carving, mostly birds & animals, sometimes human figure, but also bishop's crosiers, stair bannisters, many heads to replace scrolls on stringed instruments: both carving in the round & relief. E.g. figurehead for The Matthew. From Edinburgh I moved to Bristol in 1983 & have worked at Centrespace ever since. I am slowing down now & trying to do it gracefully but am still interested to take on small projects & keep solving problems. Why? We need to make our world a more liveable, sustainable & pleasant place.
